Ever notice how a friend can say “I’m a Dragon” and everyone at the table leans in? Eastern astrology signs have that pull. They give you a short, vivid description of yourself, and they invite you to compare it with the people you love. The Eastern Astrology Language Reading goes one step further with a personal chart.

This guide gives you the full list of Eastern astrology signs, the traits tradition describes for each, and a simple way to find yours. It also covers the one detail that sends most people to the wrong animal: the lunar new year cut-off.

The 12 Eastern astrology signs in order

The sequence never changes. Legend says the animals were ranked by the order they crossed a river in a great race, which is the story most families tell children. Whatever its origin, the order is the backbone of the whole system:

  1. Rat
  2. Ox
  3. Tiger
  4. Rabbit
  5. Dragon
  6. Snake
  7. Horse
  8. Goat
  9. Monkey
  10. Rooster
  11. Dog
  12. Pig

Twelve years make one round. After the Pig comes the Rat again, so your animal returns every twelve years. That is why people often say a milestone birthday at 12, 24, 36, 48 or 60 is a “return of your own year” in the tradition.

Find your sign by birth year

The table lists recent birth years for every animal, with the traits tradition most often gives each one. Add or subtract twelve to reach any other year.

Before you settle on an animal, read the next section. If your birthday falls in January or February, your answer may be different.

The lunar new year cut-off

Eastern astrology does not turn the page on January 1. A new animal year begins at Lunar New Year, which moves from year to year and lands between about January 21 and February 20.

Here are a few recent start dates:

YearLunar New YearAnimal that begins
2023January 22Rabbit
2024February 10Dragon
2025January 29Snake
2026February 17Horse

A person born on February 3, 2024 therefore belongs to the Rabbit, not the Dragon. A person born on February 12, 2024 is a Dragon. If your birthday sits in that January and February window, look up the Lunar New Year date for your own birth year before you claim an animal.

This is the most common mistake in the whole system, and it is easy to fix. Treat the first weeks of the Western year as the last weeks of the old animal year, and the confusion disappears.

Some BaZi practitioners place the change slightly differently, at the start of spring in early February, so you may see two answers for a birthday in that window. For everyday use, the Lunar New Year rule is the common one.

What each of the 12 signs is known for

Here are the traits in a little more detail. These are the traditional descriptions, which people mostly use as a mirror.

Rat, Ox and Tiger

Rat is the clever starter of the cycle: adaptable, sharp with money talk and good at spotting an opening. Ox is the steady one, valued for patience and a long attention span. Tiger is the bold sign, drawn to challenges and often described as a natural leader who prefers to act first.

Rabbit, Dragon and Snake

Rabbit is the peacemaker, soft-spoken and tasteful, with a reputation for avoiding conflict. Dragon is the showman of the zodiac, the only mythical animal, linked with charisma and large plans. Snake is the quiet thinker, said to read people well and keep its own counsel.

Horse, Goat and Monkey

Horse loves freedom and movement, and tradition pairs it with a warm, talkative nature. Goat leans artistic and gentle, someone who notices beauty and looks after others. Monkey is the inventor and the joker, quick to learn, restless when bored.

Rooster, Dog and Pig

Rooster is detail-minded and proud of a job done well, often described as punctual. Dog is the loyal friend, with a strong sense of fairness. Pig closes the cycle as the generous host, enjoying good food, good company and a relaxed pace.

Beyond the animal: elements and yin-yang

Your animal is only the first layer. Every year also carries one of five elements, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water, and one of two polarities, yin or yang. The animal alone gives you twelve profiles. Add the element and polarity and the same cycle repeats in sixty-year rounds, which is why the tradition can tell a Wood Dragon from a Fire Dragon.

The element follows a simple rule. Check the final digit of the birth year:

Last digitElement
0 or 1Metal
2 or 3Water
4 or 5Wood
6 or 7Fire
8 or 9Earth

Even last digits are yang and odd last digits are yin. So 2024 is a yang Wood Dragon, 2025 is a yin Wood Snake, and 2026 is a yang Fire Horse. As in the section above, count the birth year after the lunar new year cut-off, not the calendar year.

Many people find this second layer more personal than the animal. Two Tigers born twelve years apart can read quite differently once the element is added.

Taking your sign further with a personal chart

The animal is the surface layer. If you also want your element, your pillars and a written interpretation, the seller of the Eastern Astrology Language Reading offers a two-stage route.

Stage one is a quiz of nine questions, roughly a minute long. It asks for your first name, email address and complete birth date, then shows a short reading free of charge. Stage two is the paid chart. The seller calls it a chart and describes it as 50+ pages built around your birth date, with your animal and element, the BaZi pillars and themes such as money, romance and favorable days.

The two packages, as the seller lists them:

PackagePriceIncluded
Essential Reading$19Complete chart sent by email, 48-72 hour turnaround, add-ons offered at checkout
VIP Reading$47 (the seller shows $97 as its regular price)Essential plus three bonus items, a 12-hour turnaround and priority support

The seller values the VIP extras at $67 (The Bad Energy Clearing Kit), $47 (Your Soulmate Compatibility Map) and $33 (the Morning Energy Activation Audio).

Who enjoys going beyond the animal

A personalized chart suits people who like to go beyond a horoscope column. It tends to appeal to:

  • readers who already know their animal and want the element and pillars as well
  • anyone who likes a keepsake chart to read slowly or share with family
  • people planning a gift for a friend who loves astrology
  • curious beginners who like starting with a short free taste

Many people buy a reading like this as a prompt to think about love, work and money in a new way. The tradition is centuries old, so use it the way you would use a good conversation: for ideas, reflection and a bit of enjoyment.

Fun ways to use your sign

Once you know your animal, it opens up small rituals that make the tradition feel alive:

  • Family charts. List every relative’s animal on one page. Birth years that sit twelve years apart share a sign, so grandparents and grandchildren often match.
  • New year traditions. Lunar New Year is a good moment to read about your animal’s year ahead, and many families do it over a meal.
  • Gift ideas. Animal-themed jewelry, art or a written chart makes a personal gift for a friend who loves astrology.
  • Your own year. Every twelfth year is “your” year, the one tradition calls a time for fresh starts and extra care. Some people mark it with a small ritual or a new habit.

The next two animal years

The current animal year is the Horse. 2026 is a Fire Horse year, which began on February 17, 2026. The following year, 2027, belongs to the Goat and begins on February 6, 2027, with the Monkey after that. If you are planning a gift, a baby’s birth or a family chart, those dates are good ones to note down.

Why the 60-day guarantee matters here

A first-time buyer of any reading wants to know what happens if it does not click. Here the answer is reassuring. Per the seller’s Terms and the ClickBank checkout page, you have 60 days from the purchase date to ask for your money back, and ClickBank, which handles the payment, can process it.

That turns the quiz into a low-pressure first step. Nine questions later you have a short reading with your animal and element, and you decide whether a full chart appeals. One practical tip: the email box on the quiz page is pre-ticked for the seller’s emails, so clear the tick if you prefer a quiet inbox.

Good to know:

  • Per the seller, its readings come out of software and astrological calculations, and are meant as a bit of entertainment and personal reflection.
  • The quiz needs your name, an email address and a full birth date, and checkout may add tax or local currency.
  • The buttons on this page are affiliate links, so we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Common questions

What are the 12 Eastern astrology signs in order?

It opens with Rat and Ox, then Tiger, Rabbit and Dragon, then Snake, with Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster and Dog next and Pig last. Each animal rules one year, and after the Pig the cycle starts again with the Rat. Because there are twelve animals, your sign repeats every twelve years, so a person born in 1996 and one born in 2008 both share the Rat.

Is the Goat the same as the Sheep or the Ram?

Yes. The Chinese character for this animal can be read as goat, sheep or ram, so you will see all three names in English. They describe the same eighth sign, which follows the Horse and comes before the Monkey. The traits attached to it are the same under every name: gentle, creative and caring.

What if I was born in January or early February?

Check the date of Lunar New Year for your birth year. Eastern astrology starts a new animal year on that day, which falls between about January 21 and February 20. If you were born before it, your sign is usually the animal of the previous year, not the one printed on a January 1 calendar.

Do the 12 animals have elements as well?

They do. Alongside the animal, each year carries one of five elements: Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal or Water, and a yin or yang polarity. That is why a Wood Dragon and a Fire Dragon are described a little differently. The element follows the last digit of the year, in pairs.

Can I trust the traits tradition gives my animal?

Treat them as folk wisdom, not a scientific profile. The traits are broad enough that most people recognize something in them, and that is part of the fun. Many readers use them as conversation starters or prompts for reflection, which is how the tradition is mostly enjoyed today.

How do I get more than just my animal?

A fuller reading adds the element, the yin or yang side and the four pillars built from your birth date. The seller offers a personalized chart, described as 50+ pages and built from your birth date, with a free nine-question quiz in front of it.

Is the Eastern Astrology Language Reading backed by a refund?

Yes. A 60-day window applies under the seller's Terms and at the ClickBank checkout. If the reading is not for you, request a refund within 60 days of purchase, and keep your receipt, since ClickBank processes the payment.
