Anyone who takes a capsule every day should be able to read what is inside it. Derma Essential prints an amount next to every ingredient, and this page walks down the Supplement Facts panel one line at a time. We worked from the label details on the seller’s order page.

The Supplement Facts panel

Each bottle holds 60 capsules and each serving takes two, which makes 30 servings per bottle. Below is the panel with the biggest amount listed first.

Besides the active nutrients, the label names titanium dioxide, magnesium stearate, silicon dioxide, the gelatin that forms the shell, and microcrystalline cellulose.

What each ingredient is commonly used for

The seller’s pitch is a capsule that feeds skin from within and backs hair and nails that look stronger. Each role listed under the headings below comes from general nutrition references. We have not tested any of them.

Biotin

At 4,620 mcg per serving, biotin leads the formula. Many people link this B vitamin with hair, skin and nails, and the seller designed the whole capsule around it.

Vitamin C

At 157 mg, vitamin C is a well-known antioxidant vitamin. It is also tied to the body’s normal collagen formation, which is one reason skin-focused formulas tend to include it.

Niacin (vitamin B3)

Niacin, at 30 mg, is a B vitamin involved in normal energy use in the body and in the upkeep of normal skin.

Vitamins B5 and B6

Pantothenic acid (B5, 14 mg) and pyridoxine (B6, 1.6 mg) are B vitamins that take part in everyday metabolism. They sit beside biotin as part of the B-vitamin group in the formula.

Zinc

Zinc, at 12 mg, is an essential mineral. Nutrition references connect it with normal skin, hair and nails, which explains its place on the label.

Calcium

A small amount, 11 mg, in the form of dicalcium phosphate. It is a basic mineral and also helps with the capsule fill.

Horsetail extract

Horsetail, botanical name Equisetum arvense, is an old herbal ingredient found in many hair, skin and nail blends. On this label you get 25 mg of the extract.

What the label makes easy

All eight ingredients carry a printed amount, which lets you set Derma Essential beside a multivitamin or a single biotin bottle and compare them directly. The seller also states that production takes place in the USA at an FDA-registered facility and that the ingredients are naturally derived. That is the seller’s statement, and we repeat it as such.

The capsule itself

The shell is gelatin, which comes from animals, so the product does not suit vegetarians. The remaining fillers, microcrystalline cellulose, silicon dioxide and magnesium stearate, are common supplement ingredients, and titanium dioxide is listed too.

Who should read the label twice

Before any blood test, mention the biotin to your doctor, since a high dose can alter some lab results. Already using a multivitamin or a hair, skin and nail product? Let your doctor see both labels so the totals add up sensibly. According to the seller’s FAQ, if you are pregnant, nursing, younger than 18 or managing a medical condition, your doctor should see the label before you start. Keep taking your prescribed medicines as directed. For more on all of this, see the safety page.
